I'm Abigail Nye, archivist at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. You may have come here because of my work on the Personal Archive Assignment, or perhaps you found me through my culinary experimentation on Instagram. Either way, welcome. I'm glad you're here.
I first walked into an archives when I was 18. I wasn't sure what archivists did, but I needed a work-study job and an archives on my college campus had a job available. I found myself working alongside researchers in the reading room, connecting them to our collections and watching with gratification when they hit that "aha!" moment in the research process. Although I had only just discovered archives myself, I knew that I had found my career.
Over the past 7 years, I've channeled my passion for connecting people to primary sources into my work as a reference and instruction archivist. Every interaction can be a teaching moment, but I'm happiest when I'm advocating for justice, empowering mentally healthy students, and inspiring critical questioning in the classroom.
When I'm not wearing my archivist hat, I love to travel and learn about food around the world. On weekends you'll probably find me making macarons or fancy cakes to raise money for mental health or watching the latest Korean drama on Netflix.
